Global Dynamics of Advection-dominated Accretion Revisited
We numerically solve the set of dynamical equations describing advectiondominated accretion flows (ADAF) around black holes, using a method similar to that of Chakrabarti (1996a). We choose the sonic radius of the flow Rs and the integration constant in angular momentum equation j as free parameters, and integrate the equations from the sonic point inwards to see if the solution can extend supe...
متن کاملAdvection-dominated accretion: global transonic solutions
We obtained global transonic solutions representing optically thin advectiondominated accretion flow by solving the full set of differential equations describing such systems. We found that far from the sonic point self-similar solutions are an excellent approximation of the global flow structure if the accretion rate is well below the maximum value above which no optically thin solutions exist...
متن کاملAdvection-dominated Inflow/Outflows from Evaporating Accretion Disks.
In this Letter we investigate the properties of advection-dominated accretion flows (ADAFs) fed by the evaporation of a Shakura-Sunyaev accretion disk (SSD). In our picture, the ADAF fills the central cavity evacuated by the SSD and extends beyond the transition radius into a coronal region. We find that, because of global angular momentum conservation, a significant fraction of the hot gas flo...
متن کاملRelativistic Outflows from Advection-dominated Accretion Disks around Black Holes
Advection-dominated accretion flows (ADAFs) have a positive Bernoulli parameter, and are therefore gravitationally unbound. The Newtonian ADAF model has been generalized recently to obtain the ADIOS model that includes outflows of energy and angular momentum, thereby allowing accretion to proceed self-consistently. However, the utilization of a Newtonian gravitational potential limits the abili...
متن کاملAdvection-Dominated Accretion Disks: Geometrically Slim or Thick?
We revisit the vertical structure of black hole accretion disks in spherical coordinates. By comparing the advective cooling with the viscous heating, we show that advection-dominated disks are geometrically thick, i.e., with the half-opening angle ∆θ > 2π/5, rather than slim as supposed previously in the literature.
